The debate surrounding the pros and cons of open spaces has raged on for a long time. While Harvard Business Review indicates that open floor plans spark camaraderie and creativity, newer studies prove that they encourage employees to avoid one another and lead to an overall discontentment with the workspace.

While we know that when designed well, such spaces can serve to foster collaboration by providing opportunities for serendipitous interactions with people all over the organization, the trouble is that most such interactions can prove to be very distracting for people who are trying to concentrate.

However, since a lot of companies are adopting an open layout, such disruptions are inevitable, and all we can do is to learn how to deal with unwanted noise.

When you’re in close proximity to colleagues, especially those noisy, boisterous ones, there’s bound to be some noise, and if your office mate cannot keep to themselves, it can become distracting.

To thrive in the midst of such chaos, you need your own survival guide to identify and tackle all the noisy coworkers raining over your productivity parade.
